Protecting the Environment

Outcome

On completion of the workshop you will have started to develop action plans that will enable you to:

  • Ensure appropriate environmental management policies and objectives are established and managed
  • Ensure environmental management policies, objectives and procedures are effectively documented, communicated, easily accessed and regularly used
  • Improve procedures for auditing environment management performance, reporting, investigating and resolving all incidences and non-conformances
  • Identify and document the significant environmental impacts associated with production activities and processes
  • Improve procedures for reviewing environmental impacts and establishing appropriate control measures for each associated activity
  • Introduce procedures / working practices that will reduce risk of site operations causing nuisance to local community or damage to surrounding green environment
  • Introduce procedures / working practices that will reduce risk of residues from production processes or site activities contaminating watercourses, drains or sewers
  • Introduce procedures that will ensure methods used for storage and usage of hazardous substances are designed to minimize the risk of spillage
  • Introduce procedures that will ensure plant, machinery and vehicles are selected, operated and maintained so levels of CO2 emissions are kept to a minimum
  • Ensure all waste generated is controlled through a waste management plan and waste is appropriately disposed of
  • Introduce procedures / working practices that will ensure all identified waste streams are stored so as to avoid contamination, damage to the environment, nuisance or risk to public and operatives
  • Introduce procedures / working practices that will ensure effective control of energy and water consumption
